Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport (broadcast on 9/12 from 22:21) that the world is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s oyster as he paid tribute to the right-back after he captained Liverpool for the first time on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old has already achieved considerably more than most at the highest level manage during their entire career. And yet, he managed to tick off another accomplishment in the Reds’ latest game.

With Jurgen Klopp making a number of changes for their Champions League clash with Midtjylland, it was Alexander-Arnold who took the armband.
It is likely to be the first of many times in which the academy graduate leads the side out. And following the game, Ferdinand tipped Alexander-Arnold to go on and achieve a lot more during the remaining years of his career.

“I think more than anything, he’s an impressive young man,” he told BT Sport. “Very intelligent, knows exactly what he wants to do, wants to achieve, living the dream at his boyhood club. The world’s his oyster.
“We were talking about it before, Champions League final at 19 years old, looking like he’d been there and done that years before. He has some valuable experience in these early years in his career. Who knows what he’s going to go on to achieve given the team he’s in?”
As Ferdinand notes, it is remarkable to think about what Alexander-Arnold has already done. He has only recently turned 22. And yet, he already has a Champions League and Premier League medal.
He is also three games away from making his 150th appearance for the Reds. Alexander-Arnold has already achieved so much. But it would be no surprise if there was a raft of accolades still to come over the course of his career.
