Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that the future seems very, very bright for Emile Smith Rowe following his outstanding performance for Arsenal in Sunday’s North London derby.
The Gunners produced a superb display to beat Spurs 2-1 at the Emirates. A number of Mikel Arteta’s men were colossal in the victory – and Smith Rowe was certainly one of those who stepped up.

The 20-year-old hit the bar early on. And he more than vindicated Arteta’s decision to deploy him in the wide role out on the left flank.
It was a further reminder of what a sensational talent the Gunners appear to have in their ranks. And following the win, Ferdinand suggested that the academy graduate has the opportunity to achieve anything he wants in the future.
“I love him. I have to say, I love him,” he told his YouTube channel. “I love the way he plays. I was worried actually when Odegaard came in. Would the manager play him in the same team? But he’s come in, and the way he’s played this season, there’s sometimes even that cheekiness about the way he plays. I said this a while ago that he could have played in the era of Wenger, the way he plays football.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air and a big positive under Arteta. I think [Bukayo] Saka’s obviously been the standout young gun that’s come in, but he’s not far behind. And for the future, I think it’s very, very bright for him.”
TBR View: Smith Rowe’s rapid rise continues
It is remarkable to think that Smith Rowe did not make his first Premier League appearance of the season until Boxing Day.
He has since gone on to provide four assists in the top flight. Only Willian has contributed more for the Gunners.
Like Saka, Smith Rowe is threatening to make himself one of the first names on Arteta’s team sheet. He has stepped up on the big stage on a few occasions now.
And if Arsenal can keep growing from here, they could have a seriously exciting squad for years to come.
