Rio Ferdinand in awe of Newcastle-linked Palace star Conor Gallagher
Former England and Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has been singing the praises of Crystal Palace midfielder and Chelsea loanee, Conor Gallagher, this weekend.
Gallagher has emerged as one of English football’s hottest properties. His performances for Palace this season have resulted in England recognition. Further to that, clubs armed with big budgets – like Newcastle – have also expressed an interest in the midfielder. Indeed, The Mail claimed as soon as PIF took over that Gallagher was on the Magpies’ radar.
The Sun claimed in the summer that Gallagher was worth around the £15m mark. Of course, that fee is likely to have skyrocketed now. And with the way Rio Ferdinand was talking about him this weekend, it’s no surprise.
Rio Ferdinand Praises Conor Gallagher
Speaking ahead of Palace’s game with Tottenham on BT Sport yesterday, Ferdinand could not speak highly enough of the Chelsea starlet.
“Listen, I love this player. You can talk about ability, technique, and you can talk about stats. But when I speak to anyone who knows this kid, his attitude is the overriding factor that determines where he’ll end up,” Ferdinand said.
“I think this kid’s going straight to the top. Whether that be with Chelsea, which I think his desire will be. I believe he’s got the ability and tools to go and do that. And the mental side is the most impressive thing with him.”
Chelsea will have a big decision to make on Gallagher in the summer. The Blues are not averse to selling on talent for big money if the right bid comes. However, Thomas Tuchel could well look to use Gallagher.
TBR’s View: Chelsea Should Give Gallagher A Chance
Surely he doesn’t go through a season with Palace playing as well as he is and not get a go at The Bridge? It just doesn’t make sense for him or Chelsea.
If Chelsea don’t want to play him, then clubs will be scrambling. Newcastle, as we’ve mentioned, have the money to do a deal. However, they might well be in the Championship by then!
Ferdinand though, is spot on in his assessment here. Connor Gallagher is exceptional.
