Rio Ferdinand delivers his brutal verdict on Tottenham’s draw with Olympiacos

Rio Ferdinand has described Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw with Olympiacos as “completely lacklustre” on BT Sport, after Mauricio Pochettino’s side threw away a two-goal lead to come away with just a point.

Harry Kane was tripped inside the penalty area halfway through the first half, and he got up to score from the penalty spot. Moments later, Lucas Moura made it two with an emphatic finish from 20 yards out.

But that was about as good as it got for the north Londoners, as Mathieu Valbuena and Daniel Podence combined for the latter to score past Hugo Lloris. Dele Alli had a goal disallowed, before Christian Eriksen’s awful mistake saw Jan Vertonghen concede a penalty.

The pocket-sized star Valbuena scored, and the score remained until the final whistle. Ferdinand was brutal in his verdict of Spurs’ describing them as lacklustre and that they haven’t learned from last season’s tricky group stage.

“Spurs will be kicking themselves, to go 2-0 up away from home in the Champions League and you go and throw it away like that,” Ferdinand said. “Lapses in concentration, you’d think they would learn from last season – but they just haven’t.

“Pochettino will be gutted with a few individuals. Hugo Lloris epitomised the performance at the end, coming out but completely lacklustre. Really Spursy, if you want to put it like that.”

TBR’s view – Spurs looked drained and out of ideas

It seems as though that when Eriksen has a poor day at the office, so do Spurs. The Dane did very little throughout the match and arguably his biggest involvement was losing the ball poorly on the edge of his own box – before the penalty.

But it was not just Eriksen that was poor. The whole team looked sluggish, and a makeshift back four struggled to cope with the creativity of Podence and Valbuena, as well as the strength of Guerreiro.

Harry Winks is surely the only player to come out with pass marks.
