Rio Ferdinand has told his FIVE YouTube channel that he thinks Martin Odegaard needs to find a home and he hopes the Norwegian playmaker can do that at Arsenal – amid reports that the Real Madrid star is closing in on a move to The Gunners.
Odegaard, 22, returned to Real Madrid last summer after a brilliant loan spell at Real Sociedad – in which he had a hand in 16 goals during 36 appearances. He was expected to be a part of Zinedine Zidane’s side, and started with some game time.
But he has managed only nine appearances all season, and just five minutes since November. Arsenal are set to take advantage, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on Twitter that a deal has been agreed – with his trademark “here we go”.
Ferdinand responded to the incoming signing of Odegaard by stating that the Norwegian ace has plenty of potential but thinks he needs a home – and is hoping that The Emirates can be that home for the attacking midfielder.

“I’ve heard about this kid [Odegaard] for a long time now,” Ferdinand told FIVE. “He had a good loan spell in Spain at Sociedad and did really well. He’s got potential, 100%. It’s about someone like Mikel Arteta unlocking that.
“I think this kid is a talent. But he’s got to find a home now. Hopefully at Arsenal. I want him to do well. Arteta had a reputation when he was at City and now here at Arsenal for getting the best out of young players. Hopefully that follows true.”
TBR’s view – Odegaard gives Arsenal some much-needed flair
Arsenal now have the identity that Arteta has failed to previously find. The 4-2-3-1 system, with flying full-backs and two holding midfielders to cover those defenders – as well as Emile Smith-Rowe in the 10 role, is perfect for Arsenal.
Smith-Rowe deserves to start and has starred for Arsenal in recent matches. But Odegaard gives Arsenal a bit of excitement, a bit of flair that they need – especially with Mesut Ozil being ostracised and leaving. He could be a crucial addition.
