Chris Sutton has now been having his say on the red card Aston Villa captain John McGinn received against Tottenham Hotspur.
Unai Emery watched his side implode against Spurs on Sunday, something we’ve rarely seen so far this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team arrived full of confidence, demanding possession from the off.
And although they had to survive some scares on the counter, when the likes of Ollie Watkins probably should have done better, Spurs ultimately deserved to win.
Moreover, whilst John McGinn’s red card certainly didn’t help, the game was already probably won by that point.
And whilst Villa will be gutted to lose points in the race for fourth, they also now have the added blow of being without their captain for next three games.
And given there’s only ten to go, it really could prove to be a damaging afternoon all round.
That being said, Chris Sutton has now been discussing McGinn’s red card against Tottenham on the ‘It’s All Kicking Off!’ podcast.
Sutton, who was probably on the end of a fair share of those challenges in his playing days, thought the tackle was ‘ridiculous’.
Chris Sutton says there’s zero doubt about John McGinn’s red card vs Tottenham
Sutton simply thought McGinn saw the ‘red mist’ and deserved to leave the pitch.
Speaking about Villa’s woes, he explained: “They weren’t helped with the ridiculous sending off.

“I say ridiculous sending off from John McGinn, I thought it was a red card, that was cynical, there was no attempt to play the ball and wiped [Destiny] Udogie out.
“That’s a red card offence, I don’t understand why people are whinging about that.”
Sutton then finished: “That [kind of challenge] was sort of accepted in the 80s and the 90s, I’m angry I’m going to show I care, but no attempt to play the ball.
“They’re not going to appeal that, that was a guy who saw the red mist and lost his head and ended up seeing red.”
Of course, it will just be a relief that Udogie wasn’t injured by the challenge, especially given Tottenham had already lost Micky van de Ven earlier in the game.
All that being said, Alan Shearer has now been choosing who he thinks will finish fourth this season with that result in mind.
