Ahead of the January transfer window, journalist Dean Jones has now been discussing Arsenal’s chances of signing one of their key targets.
Jones was speaking on the Ranks FC podcast and mentioned some quite alarming figures when discussing a potential move for Ivan Toney.

Arsenal have long been linked with the striker who will soon return to playing football for Brentford.
And Jones thought it would take a quite ‘ridiculous’ Arsenal offer to tempt Brentford towards a January transfer.
He said: “Ivan Toney, I’ve said this for a while, I believe this to be the case, Brentford aren’t going to have gone through all this period with Ivan Toney suspended and then getting him back into training, helping him recondition, get into January when he’s available again and then just sell him.
“I find that so hard to believe. Unless they get a ridiculous offer in, which I’m told that Brentford want as much as £80m for Ivan Toney.
“I’ve seen people mentioning £50m, I don’t believe they’ll go for anything like that. I think that Arsenal initially thought that back at the start of this calendar year, say March, April time when they first started thinking about the idea of signing Toney, that when we got to the end of his ban, that £50m might be a reasonable target for them to hit if they were to sign him.
“It’s just not going to be the case, so is Ivan Toney going to leave and if so are Arsenal going to pay £70m, £80m, I’m not sure they are.”
Dean Jones thinks Arsenal are unlikely to complete January transfer for Ivan Toney
Of course, Arsenal are widely regarded to be on the brink of the Financial Fair Play limits.
And many consider that the club would need to offload players in order to buy in January.

Therefore, it is expected that Arsenal will be quiet next month, preferring to do the bulk of their further squad building next summer.
And although that may be frustrating for some – particularly those wanting to see goals added, patience should be advised.
Last night’s win at Luton Town was a brilliant example of how well Arsenal conducted their business in the summer.
Although David Raya had a rough night, both Kai Havertz and Declan Rice thrived once again.
So Jones’ update may bode well for Arsenal in the long run, a side who haven’t shown a preference for January transfers.
That being said, Arsenal scouts have been watching an exciting £35m option of late.
