'Ridiculous' £58m Arsenal target would love to play for Tottenham's Conte
Arsenal are reportedly best-placed to sign Dusan Vlahovic in January, but the Fiorentina star ‘would love’ to play for Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte.
That’s according to 90min, who report Vlahovic is willing to wait until the summer to seal a deal. The Serbia striker is in no rush to resolve his future and has a few concerns that may rule out a move to north London.
Arsenal have made an approach to land the 21-year-old as Mikel Arteta’s side are desperate to sign Vlahovic in January. The Gunners believe the winter market offers their best chance to land the 21-year-old before rivals bid.
But Vlahovic is concerned that Arsenal cannot offer a permanent place to compete in the Champions League. The forward also wants to listen to all offers before deciding where he prefers to go.
His agent has stressed to potential suitors that Vlahovic remains on the market and is yet to decide his future. But Fiorentina are also making their opposition to selling to Juventus clear over how Federico Chiesa left in 2020.
Among the clubs Vlahovic’s agent contacted, they informed Tottenham he ‘would love’ to play under Conte. Yet even the allure of working with the Italian may not be enough, as his Champions League aspirations come first.
Arsenal moving to beat Tottenham to Vlahovic transfer from Fiorentina
Vlahovic only wants to leave Fiorentina for a club playing in the Champions League. But he may consider a brief Europa League stint. Arsenal currently occupy a top-four spot in the Premier League, with Tottenham in sixth.
So, Arsenal and Tottenham’s battle for Champions League qualification may also define their pursuit of a transfer with Fiorentina for Vlahovic. Even if The Athletic report the Gunners are best-placed for a January deal.
Arsenal – who Paul Merson believes can be title contenders with Vlahovic – are prepared to offer Fiorentina the biggest fee and the Serbian the best wage to seal a January transfer and beat Tottenham’s interest.
Additionally, Gazzetta dello Sport note Arsenal have offered Fiorentina €70m (£58m) to sign Vlahovic in January. The 21-year-old has 16 goals and provided three assists after 19 Serie A games so far this season.
Micah Richards has also lauded Vlahovic’s efforts this term. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “He is lightning. It’s ridiculous… I am telling you now, he is everything, he is everything you need.”
