Rickie Lambert explains how Liverpool could benefit from Erling Haaland joining Manchester City

Former Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert believes Jurgen Klopp’s side could get an early advantage next season with Manchester City potentially adapting to Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly agreed terms with the 21-year-old as the club look set to trigger his £63million release clause.

The Mail report that Haaland would become the highest paid Premier League player on a reported £500,000-a-week.

After failing to lure Harry Kane to the Etihad Stadium last summer, the Citizens have gone the entire campaign without playing without an out and out striker.

But with Borussia Dortmund’s prized asset edging closer to following in his father Alfie’s footsteps and joining City, Lambert believes Guardiola’s side may face a period of transition as City and Haaland adapt to one and other.

However, the former England international believes once everything clicks into place with the Norwegian, City will be “unstoppable”.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Lambert said: “I think the way City play, I’m not sure a big centre forward will be good for them. It might take them a little while to get used to a new way of playing.

“I think it might disrupt them a little bit which might give Liverpool [a head start] – you know if one of these teams gets ahead early doors next season, it’s very hard these days for the other team to catch them, so I do think it could be a little advantage [for Liverpool].

“But I think in a year’s time Manchester City will be unstoppable again because he will be settled in.

“It’s unfair bringing in these players. Every year it’s just unbelievable players [being brought in].”

Haaland has 25 goals to his name this season and has scored 82 goals from 85 games for the Bundesliga giants since joining from RB Salzburg in January 2020.
