Richard Keys was left baffled and also angered by something he saw from Tottenham No.10 James Maddison against Luton Town.
Spurs needed an 86th minute strike from Heung-min Son to secure a 2-1 win and all three points earlier on Saturday, after an own goal from Issa Kabore cancelled out Tahith Chong’s opener.
However, it was actually a moment where the ball wasn’t even in play which saw Richard Keys hit out at Tottenham star James Maddison…
Richard Keys criticises James Maddison
Well, the beIN Sports pundit has recently made a habit of questioning why footballers cut holes in their socks, and he was enraged all over again after seeing the £40m man get in on the act as well.
Speaking alongside Andy Gray at half-time on beIN Sports, Keys said: “Now Maddison has decided to cut holes in his socks. I spent time with Graeme Souness this past weekend when I was back in the UK – it drives him to distraction as well. What is the point?”
Who cares?
Footballers cut holes in their socks to allow for better blood circulation in calf muscles and to lessen the chance of cramp occurring – as some football socks can often be too tight around those areas.
If Maddison needs to make that amendment too – as the likes of Conor Gallagher, a reported target for Spurs, have also done – then why does it concern Keys?
A very strange thing for the 66-year-old to keep complaining about, to say the least.
Tottenham No.10 was quiet against Luton Town
By his lofty standards, Maddison was quite poor against the Hatters.
Ange Postecoglou withdrew the England international in the 68th minute after a spell in which he only registered one shot and zero key passes – as shown by WhoScored.

It was by no means a nightmarish performance from Maddison, but for someone who has proven themselves to be a game changer on many occasions previously, he will surely feel disappointed by his underwhelming display.
Nevertheless, Spurs still managed to secure three points, and can now work towards delivering a better showing all round on Tuesday against West Ham.
