Liverpool are yet to make their first signing of the Arne Slot era but continue to be linked with moves for a host of stars.
The new Liverpool boss will undoubtedly have a keen eye on Euro 2024, with plenty of transfer targets in action in Germany.
Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich are two players who have been linked with a switch to Anfield, with the latter reportedly emerging as Liverpool’s preferred target over Teun Koopmeiners.
However, it’s no secret that the Reds are keen to bring in a new left-sided defender and one option in particular has stood out in Germany.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, sporting director Richard Hughes is a huge fan of the defender.

Hughes appreciates Liverpool target Riccardo Calafiori
Riccardo Calafiori has emerged as a target for a host of top Premier League sides, including Liverpool.
Tottenham and Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the Italian defender and his performances at the Euros are only likely to lead to more interest.
Despite stern competition for his signature, Romano claims that Calafiori has long been on Hughes’s radar after the Liverpool chief scouted the centre-back during his spell at Bournemouth.
“All these clubs have been scouting him because he’s been fantastic for Bologna and also at the Euros for Italy he is doing really well. For example, Liverpool director Richard Hughes, when he was at Bournemouth, he used to scout Calafiori when he was playing for Roma and Basel,” the transfer insider told GiveMeSport.

“He is a player Hughes always appreciated, but at the moment, I am not aware of anything concrete between Liverpool and Bologna.”

Calafiori’s Euro 2024 stats
Italy suffered a surprise defeat to Switzerland in the last-16, which saw the holders exit the competition.
Calafiori missed out on the clash due to being suspended for picking up three yellow cards during the group stages. But the ‘amazing’ 22-year-old had impressed at centre-back, registering one assist in three appearances.
It’s easy to see why the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are chasing his signature, as well as Serie A giants Juventus.
The numbers (via Sofascore) behind his Euro 2024 campaign show a centre-back who is comfortable on the ball while being equally as impressive at defending his own box.
