Richard Dunne has told Sky Sports – as per Football Daily – that Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland would be the “perfect” signing to replace Sergio Aguero, who has been confirmed as leaving the club this summer, when his contract ends.

Aguero, 32, is out of contract in June. The Argentine, who won 10 trophies including four Premier League titles during his time at Manchester City and is responsible for one of the most-dramatic moments of top-flight football, will leave when his deal ends.

A replacement is required for a player that has scored 257 goals in 384 appearances for City. Haaland, 20, continues to be linked having netted a whopping 33 goals in 31 games this season at Dortmund – and in total, 49 in 49.

Asked if the Norwegian, who earns £98,000 a week at Dortmund (90Min), would be ideal for Man City – Dunne joked he would score six goals a game at The Etihad. Dunne also claimed that Haaland has the same mentality as Aguero, and would fit well.

“I think he is a great player,” Dunne said. “The potential he has got, the goals he has scored, even listening to him – his mentality seems spot on. It would be exciting to see him come to the Premier League and it would be brilliant to see him at City.

“He’d probably get six goals a game by the looks of things. The way they play would suit him. The amount of chances Man City create is phenomenal. He looks hungry, he has the same mentality as Aguero. If he wants to come, he would fit in perfect.”

TBR’s view – Will City spend big? Or go for the likes of Ings?

It is an interesting one. Pep Guardiola has got his side playing in a different way to the one Aguero starred in. They work harder, and are more defensively solid. Gabriel Jesus has thrived, because his work rate is second to none.

City need a striker that is willing to give City the first line of defence. One that will work hard, and apply a high press. Is Haaland willing to do that? Is Harry Kane? Probably not. Is Danny Ings, or a striker that is not the top bracket? Probably.

It depends if City want to go for a big name and big money, or sign a striker that is more suited to Guardiola’s system.
