Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has waxed lyrical about Virgil van Dijk, describing the Reds star as “the best in the world”.
Van Dijk has been sensational for Liverpool since joining from Southampton in 2017 for a £75million fee, then a world record amount for a defender.
It didn’t take long for Van Dijk to make his mark, turning a shaky Reds defence into a solid unit en route to trophy glory.

Since the Netherlands international arrived at Anfield, Liverpool have won the Champions League, the Premier League and the Club World Cup.
Van Dijk is currently out injured and has been a big miss for a Reds side which has struggled to hit the heights of the last couple of years.
Williams watched his more experienced counterpart while in the academy and is now getting advice from him, for which he’s really grateful.
“To have the best centre-back in the world on tap for advice, it doesn’t get any better for a young player who’s not had a lot of experience in the professional game,” he told the Liverpool media team.
“When you’ve got someone like that who you can go and ask if you feel like you need any help or situations in games where you could’ve done better, he will give you the right advice because he’s a nice man and he’s the best in the world, for me.”
TBR View:
Can’t argue with what Williams has said – Van Dijk has been nothing short of sensational for club and country over the past few years.
Liverpool have truly missed him this season but hopefully it won’t be long before he’s back to full fitness and the Reds can enjoy a much better campaign next term.
