Rhys Breen posts on Twitter after extending Rangers contract

Rhys Breen has posted on Twitter after the Rangers centre-back put pen to paper on a contract that will see him remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2020 – and some Gers fans replied.

Breen, 19, is one of three youngsters to sign a new deal at Rangers this week. The defender is joined by goalkeepers Brian Kinnear and Lewis Budinauckas in signing contracts that see them remain at Auchenhowie for another season.

Rangers are becoming renowned for their impressive youth academy. The likes of Zak Rudden, Glenn Middleton, Kyle Bradley, Stephen Kelly, Andy Dallas, Lewis Mayo, Serge Atakayi and more are all impressing.

Breen has featured for the Gers’ Under-23 side, but he has a long way before he breaks into Steven Gerrard’s first team. He posted on Twitter on Wednesday, reacting to the new deal with delight.

Indeed, Breen has plenty of competition ahead of him. The likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley currently occupy the first two slots and back-up places.

But with a new deal for Breen, Rangers obviously recognise that he is worth keeping on side. Over the next 12 months, it will be down to the youngster to impress and earn another deal – as well as a place in the first team.

Rangers fans reacted to Breen’s Tweet, with the majority congratulating the defender. Some supporters even want to see the teenager in Gerrard’s senior side sooner rather than later.
