In January, Tottenham Hotspur allowed striker Kazaiah Sterling to join Sunderland on loan. The Black Cats had just lost youngster Josh Maja to Bordeaux whilst Charlie Wyke was battling injury problems.

The hope was that Sterling could get some valuable first-team experience and return to Tottenham a more-rounded footballing talent.

Unfortunately, his time at the Stadium of Light was a disappointment. Sterling played just eight games for the League One side and failed to score a goal. He played no part in the club’s play-off campaign and Tottenham were likely not pleased with the spell.

Yesterday, he returned to action with the Tottenham Hotspur under-23s for the new season and he will be pleased to have had a positive return.

Tottenham Hotspur’s youngsters thrashed their Liverpool counterparts in an eye-catching 4-0 win at Melwood.

Sterling scored the opening goal of the game and went on to add a second later on from the penalty spot.

With Tottenham failing to bring in a new striker this summer there is certainly a chance Sterling could push for some first-team football at Spurs this season. Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have also departed, so there is certainly a chance for Sterling.

It appears Irish youngster Troy Parrott is however ahead in the pecking order but Sterling’s performance might have also attracted potential new loan suitors for a more productive term this season.

Whether Sterling remains at Tottenham or does end up out on loan, fans will hope he continues this scoring form throughout 2019-20.
