Newcastle United are struggling at present, and fans are concerned the club are going to be dragged into a relegation battle.
The Magpies were going well enough by the end of 2019 under Steve Bruce, but recently form has been poor.
The club have won just one of their last nine Premier League matches, and haven’t scored a goal in 270 minutes.
At present, Newcastle are seven points above the relegation zone, but have had opportunities to put real daylight between themselves and the drop zone.
One big problem has been goalscoring, with Joelinton still having trouble getting to grips with English football.
That said though, sometimes the Brazilian does not get the best service.
Thankfully for Newcastle, one man is returning from injury who will help improve the supply line.
TBR’s view – Shelvey can make the difference
It is no coincidence that Newcastle have struggled to pick up results and score goals in Shelvey’s absence.
The £70,000-a-week maestro (Spotrac) has missed the last three squads due to hamstring injury, and it’s been obvious the team have struggled without his creativity from deep.
Against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Norwich City, Newcastle have managed to have just nine shots on target, which may suggest players haven’t been put in strong positions to score by a playmaker, as well as, simply, the finishing just hasn’t been good enough.
With 4.5 long balls per 90 in the league and 1.8 key passes per 90 (WhoScored), Shelvey is clearly an individual who tries to make things happen, and Newcastle need someone who isn’t afraid to be bold in their play.
