Ex-Aston Villa winger Yannick Bolasie has sent a message to fans ahead of the play-off final. In a statement on Twitter, Bolasie explains his January departure and wishes the club luck in the final.
Aston Villa face Derby County in the play-off final next weekend. Bolasie could have been part of that squad but he decided to cut his loan spell short in January.
The DR Congo international returned to Everton but was not getting a chance under Marco Silva. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Anderlecht in Belgium.
At the end of his season, Bolasie produced a statement on Twitter to express his relief at going a whole season without injury. He also had something to say to Aston Villa fans.
The 29-year-old said: “In regards to Aston Villa, I had a great time at the club with some exceptional support from the pride. Leaving in January was a difficult decision for me to make, but my admiration and respect for the club is ingrained in me forever.
“I’d like to wish Aston Villa the best of luck in the playoff finals, as they certainly deserve to be back in the Premier League where they rightfully belong.”
Bolasie played 21 games for the Villans, scoring twice and providing five assists. Here are some tweets from Aston Villa fans replying to Bolasie’s Twitter message.
