Everton claimed a decent point during the Merseyside derby yesterday, with the game against Liverpool finishing goalless.

The Toffees had their chances to nick the contest but in the main, a draw was a fair result.

Marco Silva will have been delighted with the battling qualities shown by his side, who have struggled of late.

This point came on the back of a 3-0 win over Cardiff City and offered hope that Everton’s season can finish with a flourish.

Silva’s men stood firm against Liverpool’s attacking talent and for that, they should be commended.

In truth, it was a typical derby-day encounter, with both sides having decent chances and both looking determined not to lose.

A point certainly suits the Toffees more than it does Liverpool, who suffered a real setback in their attempts to win the Premier League title.

One man who caught the eye for the hosts was midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The 29-year-old came in from the cold against Cardiff in the week and kept his place in the side for this one.

He didn’t disappoint and offered a timely reminder of what he can do if given the opportunity.

The ex-Manchester United man has only started six games this season and on this showing, it is baffling that he hasn’t featured more often.
