The Independent (Monday, 8.54am) have claimed that Serie A duo Lazio and Sevilla are interested in raiding Liverpool for midfield outcast Xherdan Shaqiri, while Turkish reports claim Fenerbahce are also keen on the Swiss star.

Shaqiri, 28, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from Stoke City and impressed in his first season – playing a crucial part in Liverpoll’s historic comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, and then final win.

But last season, injury limited Shaqiri to just 11 appearances. This season, he scored a stunning free-kick against Lincoln in his only appearance – but could now leave with both Sevilla and Lazio interested, as per the Independent.

The same outlet has carried Takvim’s claim (9.37am) that Fenerbahce are also keen on landing Shaqiri. Whether a move is permanent or on loan remains to be seen – but Shaqiri could link up with Lucas Leiva and Pepe Reina at Lazio.

TBR’s view – Which club would be best for Shaqiri?

Both Lazio and Sevilla will compete in this season’s Champions League group stage – after the latter earned a place in the competition thanks to their win over Inter Milan in the Europa League final.

Shaqiri would be another former Liverpool man at Lazio – with Luis Alberto also at the club – and that connection could tempt him to move to Simone Inzaghi’s side in the coming hours. A move, though, is running out of time.
