Reports: Third bid incoming for Arsenal stopper Emi Martinez who could wait till next month before making decision
Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez is willing to wait until late in the transfer window to make a decision over his future at The Emirates.
It comes amid mounting interest in his services from Aston Villa, who are in need of a replacement for the injured Tom Heaton after Pepe Reina headed to Lazio following a loan spell.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Aston Villa could be lining up a third bid for the stopper, with Arsenal adamant they will not be willing to sell for less than £20 million.
It comes after Martinez’s excellent form for Arsenal since stepping in for the injured Bernd Leno.
However, the German is now fit and Martinez has rejected the chance to secure his long-term future to the Gunners until he sees how he fits in with both stoppers available.
The Daily Star is reporting that the 28-year-old has informed Mikel Arteta he will not settle for being second choice and is ready to wait until October to see where his position in the club lies before deciding on whether to push for a permanent exit.
Aston Villa will certainly be hoping that is the case, as they have been looking to solve their goalkeeper issue for a number of seasons now.
As for Arsenal, they will undoubtedly be considering cashing in on Martinez whilst his stock is high, with Leno already a number one option and Matt Macey a potentially able second-choice.
Time will tell if Martinez ends up sticking around in North London, and it seems time is something the Argentine is willing to use.
