Reports suggest Marian Shved is a wanted man amid Celtic struggles

Celtic winger Marian Shved might be on his way out of the club this summer, with numerous reports suggesting a potential exit for the Ukrainian.

It is being reported by Football24 in his homeland that his former club Karpaty Lviv are keen on bringing the player back on loan for next season. He has also been linked with fellow Ukrainian side FC Oleksandriya, however, the club’s sporting director Vadym Yarovy told FootBoom they are not interested.

Another report from 24tv in Ukraine has suggested clubs in Belgium are interested in the player. It is suggested a move was in the process of being agreed, before the global health crisis put paid to the attempts.

Shved arrived at Celtic in January 2019 in a deal reportedly (Daily Record) worth around £1.75 million. He was immediately loaned back to Karpaty, where he found sensational form.

It was expected he would play a role in Celtic’s first-team this season, however, he has been on the fringes.

The 22-year-old has played just three times for Celtic, his most recent appearance being as a late substitute against Clyde in the SFA Cup.

Injury has not helped his cause. Shved suffered an ankle injury on international duty with Ukraine in September. He was then removed from Celtic’s Europa League squad in February, Neil Lennon telling the Daily Record that the ‘very talented player’ was struggling with the language barrier in Scotland.

“He’s found it difficult, he struggles with the English and in training at times he’s not at the level the rest of them are.

“He’s still a very talented player, but he’s still taking a bit more time to adapt and acclimatise than maybe some others would.”

If Celtic want Shved to be a long-term option then the best move this summer might be for a loan somewhere in the English football league or another Scottish club, so he can continue learning the language and get some regular first-team football.

But with his former club and others in Europe reportedly taking notice, perhaps Celtic will be best cutting their losses on the wide-man.
