Leeds United are considering a move for Girona striker Cristhian Stuani this summer, according to reports.
90min is reporting that Stuani is one of Leeds’ potential striking targets as they look for a significant back-up to Patrick Bamford in the position. El Observador, in Stuani’s native Uruguay, is now backing up the claims.
The 50-cap international will of course be known to Leeds fans for his stint at Middlesbrough, where he managed 16 goals in 68 games.
He is therefore known to Leeds United director of football Victor Orta, who played a major role in bringing Stuani to England.
Despite some reports, Orta was not the director of football at Middlesbrough at the time of Stuani’s reported (Daily Mail) £2.8 million move from Espanyol in July 2015. The Spaniard did not arrive at Riverside until December that year, however, he will know of the player’s talents from their time together at the club.

But this is not the same Stuani. Despite now being 33-years-old, it seems that the Uruguayan international has only got better with age.
He has scored 69 goals in 103 games for Girona since Garry Monk let him leave Boro in 2017. That included two 20-plus seasons in La Liga and this season’s tally of 29 goals in 36 games in the Spanish second-tier, as Girona aim to win promotion back to the top-flight.
As a result of his brilliant form, Stuani was even considered as a transfer target for Barcelona as recently as January of last year. AS reported that Barca were ready to pay £13 million for his services but Girona stood firm and kept hold of the player.
Leeds United fans will no doubt be open to the idea of the Whites bringing Stuani back to England if he can continue his current trajectory of form.
