Reports: Arsenal readying bargain £13.6m offer for ‘next Ronaldo’ after Sporting contract snub

Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon attacker Joelson Fernandes and with good reason. 

The 17-year-old is an immense talent and reports in Portugal yesterday suggest that the Gunners might be onto a winning deal. 

A Bola is reporting that Sporting are desperate to secure the player to a new deal as they see him as a potential Cristiano Ronaldo like superstar. They claim Arsenal held negotiations with related parties yesterday and ‘intensified’ their interest in the player. 

However, as reported by TVI24, an initial contract offer has been turned down by the teenager. It is claimed that Fernandes is open to signing a new deal with the club but will not agree to a €70 million (£64m) release clause being included in any deal. 

The report then details Arsenal’s interest, which is considered the strongest among interested parties. They reportedly put pressure on the teenager not to sign such a deal. 

The same source has even suggested that Arsenal could be ready to offer just €15 million (£13.5m) for the player, a fee Sporting will struggle to reject i f the player continues to reject a contract renewal. 

Considering previous reports from A Bola claimed Arsenal would be willing to pay the teen’s current €45 million (£36m) release clause, that would be a bargain get from the Gunners. 

There is plenty of excitement surrounding the teenage winger and Sporting genuinely seem to believe they have the next CR7 on their hands. 

If Arsenal can get their hands on him, it could end up being a breakthrough moment for the club.
