Reports: Agent switch leaves Victor Osimhen transfer in trouble, Liverpool in talks

There has been an incredible twist in the potential transfer of Victor Osimhen to Napoli, which might have Liverpool fans excited.

The Nigerian striker looked all set for a move to the Italian side. It was reported by L’Equipe just this week that an €81 million (£73m) deal was all in place for the Lille striker to head to the Stadio San Paolo this summer.

However, at the same time, Goal reported that Osimhen had recently changed agents, which had seemingly delayed the deal. The transfer continued to remain on ice after that.

Now, reports from Italy and France are painting a messy picture with Liverpool potentially getting a chance to sign Osimhen in the aftermath.

Alfredo Pedulla of SportItalia, as relayed by AreaNapoli, is reporting that the new agent has not yet closed any deal with Napoli and is in contact with Liverpool and Manchester United regarding the deal.

“Osimhen’s new agent has shuffled the cards he spoke with Liverpool and Manchester United. More with Liverpool. And he asked Napoli for time he wanted…”

It backs up reports from Get French Football News regarding the agent switch and potential legal action from his previous representative.

For Napoli, it is a painfully similar scenario. They missed out on another Lille player in Nicolas Pepe under similar circumstances last summer, the winger eventually joining Arsenal.

It looks like a very messy situation and it is hard to see Liverpool paying big for Osimhen when they were seemingly not willing to do the same for Timo Werner.

What is more likely, is that Osimhen’s new agent is simply fishing around for a better offer from Napoli but it does seem Liverpool might have a chance of getting the electric striker.

If they can find a spare £73 million that is.
