Liverpool are claimed to be closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window in the form of 16-year-old Orleans defender Billy Koumetio.
That’s according to RMC Sport’s Chief Football Editor, Mohammed Bouhafsi, following on from a trial at the club in November, where Koumetio clearly did enough to impress and earn a deal.
The Reds will now be hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of Ki-Jana Hoever, a fellow 16-year-old who joined the club in September from Ajax after a trial and went on to rocket through the under 18s to become a regular for the club’s under 23 side and even earned his first team debut against Wolves in the FA Cup, becoming the club’s youngest ever player in the competition in the process.

Having previously played for Lyon and with French youth international appearances under his belt, the future is clearly bright from Koumetio, who usually features in central defence.
Left-footed, the teenager will hope to show that he too can rise through the ranks given that he is expected to start off his time on Merseyside with the club’s under 16s side and then progress from there.
It seems unlikely that Premier League leaders Liverpool will make many more moves in the transfer market this window, though Koumetio’s signing could prove to be a valuable one in the years to come.
