Tottenham were recently linked with Lille attacker Victor Osimhen, and the starlet has since been showing why he’d make a great acquisition for the north Londoners this summer.
Sky Sports reported in December that Spurs were monitoring the Nigeria international, along with Liverpool and Chelsea.
They said at the time that Osimhen was happy to remain at Lille to help them try and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Since that report linked him with Spurs and the others, Osimhen has scored five more goals for the Ligue 1 side, including outstanding chipped finishes against AS Monaco and Gonfreville (in the cup) a few weeks ago and Angers at the weekend.
The former Wolfsburg ace may only be 21, but he’s shown impressive maturity at times this season, especially when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
TBR’s view – Osimhen would be worthy Kane backup
Tottenham could do a lot worse than to go out and sign Osimhen this summer having reportedly been monitoring the player.
What makes him worthy of consideration is that he has shown a particular knack for beating the offside trap and latching onto through balls with his searing pace.
Spurs obviously have a world-class striker in Harry Kane, but arguably the one thing he lacks is pace, and the ability to sprint clear of defenders after beating an offside trap.
It would perhaps be good for Spurs to sign an actual striker with pace and strong finishing attributes for next season, rather than continue to rely on Heung-min Son or Lucas Moura to play out of position.
If Spurs need an injection of something different in games next term and they obviously will at points, then Osimhen could be perfect to come on and stretch the legs of tired defenders.
