Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Rangers defender Borna Barisic this summer, with 90min reporting that Spurs are looking at the left-back as they look to replace Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose at the end of the season.

Barisic has been a revelation for the Gers this term. He has recovered from a poor first season at Ibrox and become one of Steven Gerrard’s most important players.

90min reports that Spurs have been impressed by Barisic, but Rangers are set to demand at least £22 million for the set-piece specialist.

It would arguably be a surprise if Tottenham did make a move for Barisic this summer. But if they do come calling, it may not be a shock if he was open to making a switch.

Of course, joining Jose Mourinho’s side may be tempting anyway for the Croatian. But based on comments he previously made about following the Premier League side (as reported by the Daily Record), perhaps he may be particularly keen to head to North London.

In December, Barisic opened up on his previous affection for Spurs as he commented on now playing alongside Jermain Defoe.

“I used to watch him play for Spurs because Luka Modric and Vedran Corluka were also there at that time,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“He is a top guy. I like him a lot. From the first day he came into the club he spoke a lot with the younger players, with everyone really.”

Admittedly, that could ultimately count for little. Spurs are reportedly going to have to offer a lot of money to start discussing a move with Barisic.

But following in his countrymen’s footsteps may make a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium particularly appealing to Barisic should he wish to play in the Premier League during his career.
