Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be in the hunt for Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are on the hunt for a replacement for Kieran Trippier, who joined Atletico Madrid earlier this week.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Napoli’s Albania international had emerged as a potential target for Spurs during the week. Now, as relayed by Football Italia, Radio Kiss Kiss in Naples have suggested Tottenham are at the front of the queue for the player. The report also suggests Napoli would want around €25 million (£22.4 million) for the player.
Which should be considered an absolute bargain. Especially when you consider how highly he was valued last summer.
Last summer, Chelsea were being strongly linked with a move for the player. As reported by The Express, citing TMW, Napoli rejected a £37 million move for the player from Chelsea last summer. Instead, the Serie A side wanted a fee in the region of £53 million.
Tottenham would, therefore, be getting Hysaj at a reduction of £30.6 million compared to this time last year. That is an indicator of Hysaj’s struggles for Napoli last season. By the end of the campaign he was on Carlo Ancelotti’s bench, with Kevin Malcuit and Faouzi Ghoulam preferred at right and left-back respectively.
But Hysaj remains a very talented and versatile player who would suit Tottenham’s current needs perfectly. At just £22.4 million, he should also be considered something of a bargain.
