Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence ‘not ready’ for Premier League claims Neil Warnock

Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a potential move to sign Middlesbrough talent Djed Spence this summer.

Spurs are perhaps the biggest team said to be tracking the young full-back. ESPN report that Tottenham are keen, along with West Ham, Brighton, Southampton, Burnley, and Sheffield United.

Tottenham are, of course, in need of reinforcements in Spence’s position and therefore the links certainly add up.

However, the £10 million rated star is not ready for the move, according to his current manager.

Neil Warnock is a big fan of Spence. However, as reported by the Hartlepool Mail, the Boro boss does not think he is ready for Premier League football and should remain at The Riverside for the time being.

“I remember having a chat with Nathaniel Clyne at Palace. Wolves wanted him, who were in the Premier League at that stage.

“I said to him you’re better off having another season and getting some games and experience under your belt. Djed is like that.

“And no disrespect to him, I don’t think he’s ready to go straight into a Premier League team.”

Tottenham have long been linked with a move for Spence. In January, following Spence’s impressive display against Tottenham in the FA Cup, the London Evening Standard reported that Jose Mourinho was a fan and that Spurs were ready to make a move.

It was claimed that Mourinho has been tracking Spence since he was at Fulham playing alongside Mourinho’s son, Jose Jr.

With Tottenham short at right-back, a move to Spence could see the teenager going straight into the first-team picture.

However, as seen by the stilted season another Football League recruit, Jack Clarke, has had at Tottenham so far, perhaps another year with Middlesbrough is indeed in the best interest of this talented young full-back.
