Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Inter Milan star Valentino Lazaro.

Talks have been held with the club according to the player’s agent Max Hagmayr (fcinter1908.it), who was in attendance at St. James’ Park for the weekend victory over Chelsea.

Apparently there are other offers on the table for the former Hertha Berlin star, but the Magpies are hopeful of getting a deal done.

Lazaro has been unable to feature much for the Nerazzurri following his £20 million summer transfer (Goal), and Antonio Conte has now brought in Ashley Young and is reportedly targeting Victor Moses (Sky in Italy).

That would suggest he will be allowed to depart, and Newcastle fans should be hoping the club’s transfer committee are able to get a deal over the line, because he could be a brilliant signing.

TBR’s view – Adaptable Lazaro ideal for Newcastle

The Austria international is a very versatile, capable of playing on either side of the pitch.

The 23-year-old is a right-back by trade but is particularly attack-minded, suggesting he would be absolutely ideal for the Newcastle system that uses wing-backs.

Lazaro has operated as an out-and-out winger many times and he would arguably be well suited to a position that is somewhere in between right-back and right-wing.

Additionally, Jetro Willems has just been ruled out for the season with injury, so there is even more reason for Lazaro to be signed given he can also play on the left.
