Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Miguel Almiron this month seem to be fading. According to a report by The Chronicle over the weekend, Newcastle are refusing to increase their offer for Almiron.

The creative midfielder has been a standout performer in the MLS for Atlanta United but the Magpies might miss out on their top target.

This same report suggests that the Paraguay international’s agent is now hoping to earn his client a move to Napoli.

Newcastle have less than a week now to pursue alternative options in their quest to sign a midfield playmaker.

But it could be the perfect excuse to reignite their interest in Mainz winger Robin Quaison, who has been very impressive this season.

The Sweden international caught the eye once again at the weekend as he scored the winning goal in Mainz’s 2-1 victory over Nuremberg.

That was Quaison’s sixth goal of the season in 19 games and he also has three assists to his name.

According to a report by Ghana Soccer Net back in December, Newcastle have scouted the 25-year-old.

This might now be the perfect time for Newcastle to firm up their interest with a concrete bid, considering Quaison’s versatility and impressive form.

Quaison can operate on either wing, as a number 10 or even as a centre-forward, bolstering Newcastle’s attack in their bid for survival.
