Everton are reportedly in talks regarding the potential signing of Lille defender Adama Soumaoro.

It is reported by La Voix Du Nord that Everton have been in contact with the player’s representatives about a potential deal. The Lille captain is valued at €12-15 million (£10.7-£13.4 million).

The report claims England as his preferred destination, with Crystal Palace also keen.

It is not the first time that Everton have been linked with the French defender. As reported by the Daily Mail, Sam Allardyce was reportedly keen on the 27-year-old back in December 2017. Big Sam had previously wanted the defender during his time at Sunderland, as reported by the Mail.

Soumaoro is also open to an exit if his words in April are anything to go by. He admitted in the print edition of France Football, as reported by Goal, that he could consider an exit from Lille this summer.

“(I may not leave) not necessarily. But I’m listening. I do not have dreams but I am ambitious, I want to play at the highest level.

“I’ve been here for ten years, and I’m thinking about it more and more. I feel ready.”

It seems that if Everton truly want Soumaoro then they can get him. The player is said to be ready for a move to the Premier League. Financially he seems more than affordable.

That said, he is surely only considered an alternative to Zouma.

Marco Silva admitted to the Liverpool Echo this week that he is ‘hopeful’ of bringing the Chelsea man to Goodison Park permanently this summer.

Where it not for a transfer ban and change of managers at Stamford Bridge, you imagine this deal would have been done.

But with Yerry Mina back in form during the Copa America and Michael Keane looking at his best toward the end of next season, Everton do look strong at the back.

But if Zouma is off the table, Soumarao could be a like-for-like replacement.
