Reported Glasgow Rangers target Manuel Benson has a playing style which resembles that of Gareth Bale, according to the Ibrox linked man’s agent.
The 23-year-old winger currently plays for Royal Antwerp and was previously at Genk, briefly playing alongside Rangers newcomer Ianis Hagi.
Voetballnieuws claim that the Ibrox club are interested in two more players from the Belgian top flight – Benson and Zulte Waregem striker Saido Berahino.
Benson spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Royal Excel Mouscron and registered six goals and nine assists, his great form prompting links with Inter Milan last year.
“He is a very, very technical attacking player,” Benson’s agent, Patrick de Koster, told FCInterNews last year. “A left-footed winger, great on the ball and at his best when deployed on the wing. He is improving a lot in the Belgian first division and the results are clear. ”
De Koster refuted comparisons with Kevin De Bruyne, another client of his, and spoke about another top player: “Gareth Bale. Rapid, fast, great acceleration and an eye for goal. Obviously I’m not comparing the two, I’m just saying Manuel has a playing style reminiscent of that of the Real Madrid player.”
Benson certainly seems like a talented player, and with a similar playing style to that of Gareth Bale, there’s certainly food for thought for Rangers.
That said, he hasn’t exactly impressed for Antwerp this term – he has one goal and two assists from 20 games in all competitions, and has started just seven league games all season.
On top of that, his contract runs until 2023 and he is said to be in manager Ivan Leko’s plans, so he may not be a particularly straightforward – or indeed cheap – acquisition for the Ibrox side.
