Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly keen on bringing Dion McGhee to Ibrox this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The 19-year-old midfielder has come through the ranks at Manchester United since joining the club aged six, and made nine league appearances for the Under-23 side this term.

However, he is out of contract at the end of the season and will not be offered a new deal.

McGhee bid an emotional farewell to United on Twitter:

And Red Devils star Juan Mata sent him a very kind message of support:

According to the Daily Star, Rangers are joined by Premier League duo West Ham and Watford, plus Championship side Derby, in tracking McGhee amid his release from Old Trafford.

He is also believed to be on the radar of several European teams including Portugal’s Benfica and Porto, French side Nice and Dutch high-flyers AZ.

The Manchester Evening News, meanwhile, claims that McGhee has also spoken to clubs in Italy and Spain.

Crucially for Rangers, however, the Daily Star report claims that “the appeal of playing under Steven Gerrard may well lead McGhee to eventually head for Glasgow.”
