Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of Willian imminently.
The latest reports suggest the South American has undergone a medical with the Gunners, and all that is missing now is official confirmation.
Mikel Arteta has swooped for the 32-year-old on a free transfer having had an impressive seven years at Chelsea.
The star has supposedly penned a three-year deal with the Emirates club.
Most Arsenal fans are pleased with the addition of the Brazilian, who can undoubtedly bring several qualities to the table like work rate and set-piece ability.
Interestingly, there have been reports that Arteta is actually keen to use Willian in a slightly different role to the one he performed at Chelsea.
According to The Mirror, the Spaniard is ready to restore the Brazilian to a number 10 role – a position he played during his Shakhtar Donetsk days.
That would be a curveball, and likely something that could be a blow for young Joe Willock.
TBR’s View – Willock previously dubbed potentially ‘outstanding’
If Arteta intends to use Willian through the middle, that is bad news for young Englishman Willock.
The 20-year-old’s preferred position is as an advanced midfielder, but regular minutes might be hard to come by if Arteta does indeed deploy Willian as a 10.
The report actually comes after Arteta previously stated he thought Willock could become ‘an outstanding player in that position’ (football.london).
There has also been talk about the possibility of Philippe Coutinho coming in, and if that happened then a loan move would certainly be in the player’s best interests.
