Liverpool went seven points clear at the top of the Premier League yesterday with a 1-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion. It was certainly not rock and roll football from Jurgen Klopp’s team on this occasion. However, it was certainly a gritty performance in which Liverpool deserved to take away all three points.
Mohamed Salah scored the winning goal from the penalty spot. Interestingly, the man who gave away the penalty is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Mirror reported in mid-December that Klopp is a big admirer of Brighton playmaker Pascal Gross. The report suggested a potential £15 million deal could be on the horizon in the January window as Liverpool looked to add some depth to their title challenge.
Klopp, reportedly, was a big fan of Gross during his time back in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.
It was a deal that seemed to make sense. He was affordable and certainly a Klopp player.
However, one weakness to his game is clearly defending in his own box. Liverpool will feel the £15 million target has already had a big impact in their push for the Premier League title.
