Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of signing a talented young player who has been compared to Mohamed Salah and Mason Greenwood.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are confident of signing Derby teenager Kaide Gordon for a fee of an initial £1million, which could rise to around £3million.
The 16-year-old, an England youth international, was named Derby’s Academy Player of the Year last season.
According to the Echo, Tottenham and Manchester United were also believed to be showing interest in him, but Liverpool are in pole position.
The report claims that the Reds believe the clear path to first-team football will convince Gordon and his family that Anfield should be his destination.
Gordon wouldn’t be able to sign a professional contract with Liverpool until October when he turns 17, but as with Harvey Elliott, this could just be a formality.
Speaking on the Echo’s Blood Red podcast, Jack Hasler, who has covered a lot of Derby youth games over the past few seasons, compared Gordon to Salah and Greenwood.
“If he was to bulk up a bit, he could, in terms of a Liverpool player, be similar to Mohamed Salah in that he has that left foot that is really special,” he said.
“He is always going to score and create, but if you look at someone like Greenwood, he is good with both feet now and that is something that Gordon would be looking to do.
“[Like Greenwood] he was put straight into the first team training from the U18s and Wayne Rooney said Gordon was on a par with the senior players.”
Liverpool have produced some amazingly talented young players in recent years, and plenty more are coming through the ranks.
When it comes to spotting talent, no scouting network can ever rest on their laurels, and the Reds department is doing some great work for sure.
If the reports are true regarding Gordon, it looks as though yet another superb prospect could be joining the Liverpool ranks.
