Reported Leeds United transfer target Sasa Kaladjzic out until 2020 with injury

This summer saw Leeds United linked with a move for Austrian talent Sasa Kalajdzic. The Daily Mail reported in April that the talented attacker was on Leeds’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

It came after an incredible season in the Austrian league with his club Admira Wacker. Kalajdzic played 15 games after recovering from a broken foot, scoring eight and assisting five goals.

Soon things had died down regarding the apparent interest from Leeds and eventually the 22-year-old headed elsewhere.

Kalajdzic joined VfB Stuttgart, who have just been relegated from the Bundesliga, at the start of the month. As reported by Stuttgarter Zeitung, Die Schwaben spent €2.5 million (£2.2m) for his services.

Leeds fans likely let his move slip them by but it does seem they might have missed out on a very promising young talent.

However, judging by recent events, Leeds might have had a lucky break.

Unfortunately for the Austrian and Stuttgart he suffered a serious injury over the weekend whilst in friendly action for his new club. Kalajdzic suffered a horrific knee injury during a 4-2 friendly win over Freiburg. He tore his cruciate ligament and meniscus and, according to Voralberger Nachrichten, will be out of action for up to eight months.

That means Stuttgart fans might not get to see their new signing until 2020.

Of course, it is something of a loose prediction to suggest Kalajdzic would have suffered the same injury had he joined Leeds. However, it certainly feels like Leeds have had a lucky escape.
