Reported Leeds United target Baghdad Bounedjah comments on his future

Leeds United fans are probably aware of their apparent interest in Algerian goal-machine Baghdad Bounedjah by now.

The Algerian international was first linked back in July 2018. The report, from L’Expression, suggested that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa had previously wanted him at Lille and continued that interest. France Football later backed up that report recently report, suggesting a £4.5 million battle with Marseille was looming.

Last month, those reports seemed to return. Le Buteur was reporting that Leeds and Marseille were again keen on the player with his club side Al Sadd wanting £13 million for the pleasure. Considering the fact he scored 58 goals in the 2018 calendar year and helped Algeria win the African Cup of Nations in the summer it was easy to see why there is interest in the player.

Now the player himself has been speaking about his future and it seems he is not on the lookout for a move away from Qatar.

Speaking to Al-Watan, as reported by Le Buteur, he admitted there is interest in his services but that he is currently very happy where he is.

“Yes, I have offers, but I feel very good at Al Sadd.

“I do not know what will happen in the future, but I can assure you that I am happy at my current club.”

TBR’s View

At the time of the more recent reports, we at TBR suggested why Leeds should forget about a potential deal, highlighting the fact he signed a lucrative long-term contract in Qatar less than a year ago.

That position can only be strengthened by Bounedjah’s comments.

The Algerian is clearly happy where he is and it would be an expensive task to pry him away from his current club.

Leeds should continue to monitor Bounedjah, but when it comes to strengthening the squad, more realistic options must be available.
