Leeds United were apparently interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen Lucas Alario this summer, with the forward confirming this week that the Whites approached him.
Alario has been in fine form for Leverkusen this term, scoring goals and putting in performances which seemingly justify the reported £21.5m fee the German outfit forked out for the Argentinian.

The 28-year-old could have proved a shrewd addition for the Whites and the reports of his potential signing was something that caught the attention of fans at Elland Road.
The Europa League this week, then, gave Leeds fans the chance to have a proper look at Alario in action for Leverkusen. The German outfit played Israeli outfit Hapoel Be’er Sheva, winning out 4-2 eventually.
But unfortunately for Leeds fans, Alario was more or less a non-existent figure on the night.
Lack of contribution
It might have been a one off, but Alario was somewhat off the pace on the night and lasted just 45 minutes before being withdrawn for impressive attacking talent, Moussa Diaby.
For Leeds fans watching the game and judging things solely on this performance, Whites fans will probably be happy they didn’t shell out a big fee for the forward.

Of course, his season form overall is good. And obviously, it is harsh to judge a player based on 90 (or in this case 45) minutes.
But, in the interest of looking at potential signings and linked players, keeping an eye on the likes of Alario is worth a look.
