Tottenham Hotspur earned a surprise 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday evening after Pep Guardiola’s side went down to 10 men following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s red card – and reported January target Willian Jose has applauded Lucas Moura.
With the scoreline at 0-0, Manchester City dominated proceedings and should have been well and clear before Zinchenkow was sent off. Sergio Aguero hit the post, while Ilkay Gundogan missed a penalty.
But it was new Spurs signing Steven Bergwijn that broke the deadlock, chesting a chipped ball forward from Lucas Moura before unleashing a venomous volley past Ederson into the bottom corner from 18 yards out.
Son Heung-min secured a memorable victory for Tottenham a few minutes later, and Moura – who spearheaded the Tottenham side in the absence of Harry Kane once agaim – posted on Instagram after the match.
Spurs desperately tried to sign a new striker in January, with Olivier Giroud of Chelsea, Leicester City’s Islam Slimani and even new Manchester United target man Odion Ighalo being linked. Real Sociedad’s Jose was also linked.
The Guardian claimed Spurs were in and out of talks with Sociedad over a move for the Brazilian, with Sociedad wanting £21million for the 28-year-old. It was only until deadline day that a move for Jose was finally ruled out by Spurs.
Just days after the window slammed shut, Jose has sent a message to Lucas Moura on Instagram – the duo having played alongside eachother for Sao Paulo’s senior side during the 2011-12 campaign. He sent Moura a series of emojis.
