Celtic are reportedly interested in a move to bring Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever in on loan this season.

That is according to a recent report from Read Celtic, who claim that the Bhoys are keen on the Dutch defender, who can play both as a right-back and centre-back.

The youngster would join his fellow young countryman Jeremie Frimpong at Parkhead and would seemingly strengthen Celtic’s flaky looking defence.

It would certainly be an exciting piece of recruitment for Celtic, considering who the 18-year-old has been compared to.

Tall, athletic and an excellent ball-player, the teenager has found himself compared with Liverpool’s star centre-back Virgil van Dijk. Indeed, the Daily Mail even dubbed him ‘the next Van Dijk’.

The Dutch colossus cut his teeth at Celtic and bringing in a player who is considered a potential successor would undoubtedly have Celtic fans excited.

Hoever has even spoken about training with Van Dijk earlier this month.

“A privilege. I’m blessed to be able to do that (train with Van Dijk) every day,” Hoever told Bleacher Report. “Virgil is the best defender in the world today. He’s amazing with the ball.

“He speaks Dutch to me in training and I can understand things even better. I go to him after training and ask questions and he is willing to answer all my questions.”

No doubt, if Hoever asks Van Dijk for his opinion regarding a potential loan switch to Glasgow, the world’s best defender will quickly inform his young pretender that a move to Celtic would be good for his development.

Celtic would just be left hoping Hoever can find his feet in Glasgow and impress in a similar fashion to their former superstar.
