Reported Celtic summer target Mark Diemers bags hat-trick

After a blip before the international break, Celtic look to be back to their best with the Hoops enjoying one of their best weeks since Neil Lennon returned to Parkhead.

The Bhoys went into last week off the back of a 6-0 win over Ross County. And they went on to produce a stunning comeback victory against Lazio in the Europa League before demolishing Aberdeen 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

They have scored 12 goals in three games, conceding just one. And Celtic now have one foot in the Europa League knockout stages, while also sitting at the top of the domestic league.

With that in mind, Lennon would be forgiven for feeling that his squad may be exactly where it needs to be.

Nevertheless, he may be intrigued to know that one of his reported summer targets also enjoyed a sensational weekend.

It was reported by Belgian outlet Walfoot that Celtic were one of the clubs interested in signing Mark Diemers from Fortuna Sittard.

The 26-year-old scored seven goals and provided seven assists in the Eredivise last year. And he is already well on his way to eclipsing his goals tally this term.

Diemers scored a hat-trick in the weekend 4-1 win over VVV-Venlo. He now has five league goals for the campaign, and six in all competitions.

It is not clear how interested Celtic were in the summer. But if he genuinely found himself on the club’s radar, then surely his treble will not have escaped their attention.

Celtic have a lot of quality in the middle of the park. The likes of Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie were not even on the bench against Aberdeen.

But if Diemers builds upon his hat-trick, it will be intriguing to see whether Celtic show any fresh interest in January, particularly if the Hoops continue to find themselves battling on several fronts in the second-half of the season.
