Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson.

Ahead of the January transfer window, the Daily Mail claimed Spurs were monitoring the 20-year-old.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Everton, Newcastle, West Ham and Brentford are apparently eyeing Johnson too.

If any Spurs scouts were at the City Ground today, they’d have loved what they saw from the Wales international.

Johnson put in a superb performance for his side as they ran out 2-1 winners over fierce rivals Derby County.

The winger was a constant menace for the opposition defenders once he got into his stride.

Lewis Grabban opened the scoring for the hosts on 48 minutes.

The 30-year-old slotted home on the rebound from Steve Cook’s blocked shot.

Then, Johnson grabbed what turned out to be the crucial winning goal eight minutes from time.

He started and finished the move for the Reds’ late second.

Johnson found Philip Zinckernagel on the left and then marauded into the box to fire home the Dane’s low cross.

Derby halved the deficit from the spot in the 88th minute.

However, Forest held on for the Brian Clough Trophy and all three points.

Sky Sports then interviewed Johnson after the game and asked him about his future amid Premier League speculation.

“I’m not too sure but I’m loving my football at the minute,” he replied.

“I think you could see how confident all the boys are, the results have been going our way recently.

“I just want to keep this going and keep doing well.”

According to the Mail, Forest value Johnson at £20million.

That’s not too steep a fee for Tottenham to pay, and they’d be getting one of the Championship’s best players.

Johnson’s contract runs out in 2023 – could his club look to cash in this month?

And if so, could Spurs win the race to sign him?
