Report: Zidane pushing to target Spurs’ Son

Zinedine Zidane is pushing for Real Madrid to target Spurs’ Son Heung-min, according to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, but there is a problem that they will have to contend with if they hope to land the Tottenham Hotspur star.

Son has undoubtedly established himself as one of the best players in the world in recent times. The 28-year-old has scored 16 times in all competitions this season. He has also provided five assists in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, it appears that he is attracting attention from elsewhere.

And according to Defensa Central, one of those planning to target Spurs’ Son is Zidane. It is claimed that the Madrid boss loves the 28-year-old and has been pushing the board to consider him for several weeks.

It is suggested however, that he will not be easy to sign. Defensa Central notes that his asking price will far exceed £90.7 million (€100 million).

And the report claims that Los Blancos are not currently in a position to make those kind of signings. They either need to move several players on or wait for the pandemic to be over for their finances to recover.

Spurs are seemingly in a strong position to keep Son. As noted by The Telegraph this week, his contract runs until 2023. And Tottenham are reportedly confident that he will extend his terms further – and agree to wage of around £200,000-a-week.

That report suggested that no announcement is imminent. But perhaps it would be wise to step up discussions to ensure that any transfer speculation is quashed before it can really get going.
