Sami Khedira is open to a transfer to England, six months after links to West Ham United. That’s according to new report in Germany.

SportBild claims Sami Khedira is open to a Premier League move. The German is out of favour with Juventus and is now happy to bring an end to his five years there.

The report claims that while a move to a non-European team (such as MLS) is unlikely, Khedira is otherwise on the market. That could well interest West Ham United.

Reports last April linked West Ham to a Khedira transfer. They weren’t the only ones, however, as CalcioMercato had both the Hammers and Wolves as interested in the player.

Nothing came of it, of course, and the player remains in Turin. January, though, could see movement.

TBR View:

Khedira is now 33, so hardly a long-term investment here. Instead, we can’t help but wonder if there’s a way West Ham can get something long-term out of a move.

Khedira has incredible experience, after all. He’s won the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, the Champions League and the World Cup – not to mention the list of smaller cups he’s lifted.

And given their similarities in position, could the German be a good influence on Declan Rice?

Khedira’s injury history means he won’t be a reliable first-team player. But he could be a great influence on Rice, while adding experience in the middle when West Ham need it.

They’d have to find out his price and wage demands but on the face of it, this could be worth thinking about when January rolls around.
