Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet in the past few months.

And over the past few days, speculation linking Spurs with the France defender has intensified.

Now, El Periodico claims Lenglet is pretty much ‘on his way’ to Tottenham.

The Spanish outlet – via Sport Witness – claims talks between the two clubs have ‘intensified’ in the last few hours.

A definitive agreement is now close to being reached, added the report.

The proposed loan deal would apparently see Spurs pay a €5million fee up front for the upcoming season.

There would be also be a ‘mandatory purchase option’ in the deal for next summer.

In addition, Lenglet is apparently keen on the move.

This is because joining Spurs would provide him with an ‘open door’ to the Premier League.

In the English top flight, he could find regular game time and stability in a World Cup year, added the report.

The last hurdle apparently involves wages, with Barca reportedly wanting Spurs to pay his full salary.

Conte finally closing in on centre-back reinforcement

Lenglet made 27 appearances for Barca last season, but just seven of those were starts.

Tottenham have been looking for reinforcements at centre-back, with a view on left-footers.

Lenglet, who Didier Deschamps has described as ‘world-class‘, fits the bill.

He is talented, hard-working, and boasts plenty of top-level experience.

And unlike the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Lenglet and his club both seem keen on the move happening.

Definitely one to watch in the coming days – maybe even hours.
