Wolverhampton Wanderers have made Thomas Lemar one of their top targets for the January transfer window, with Goal reporting that both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are not making to make bids for the Frenchman.

Lemar appears to need a move away from Atletico Madrid as soon as possible. The 24-year-old has struggled since joining Atleti from Monaco in 2018. He has scored just three league goals in 49 La Liga games.

Goal reports that he has been linked with a number of Premier League sides, including Spurs and Arsenal. It is suggested that the North London pair are not planning to make bids for Lemar this month.

Instead, it appears that there is a chance that he could soon head to Molineux. Goal reports that Wolves have made Lemar one of their top targets.

Goal notes that Wolves have a good relationship with Jorge Mendes, who is working to find Lemar a new club. And the two clubs have agreed a couple of transfers in recent times.

Atletico reportedly want an option to buy for a fee of at least £34 million included in any loan deal.

TBR View – Loan move could be inspired from Wolves

Lemar has been a poor signing for Diego Simeone’s men. But he has the talent to make a switch to Wolves look like a masterstroke from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Admittedly, it would be a huge gamble to make a permanent move this month. But a loan deal that includes an option to buy rather than an obligation could be inspired.

If Lemar is able to rediscover the form he showed at Monaco, he could be an outstanding addition to Wolves’s ranks. And perhaps the other Premier League sides offered the chance to sign him will be left to kick themselves over missing out.
