According to RMC Sport, Wolves have submitted a bid worth €15m (£12.9m) to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car.

What’s the story?

Well, it seems Bruno Lage is making a late move to sign a centre-back.

RMC Sport believe West Ham are also interested in the 16-cap Croatia international, who Marseille need to sell.

The Ligue 1 outfit would presumably rather keep their No.15, although the financial impacts of COVID-19 mean they must sell.

Caleta-Car is clearly a good footballer, as Liverpool were on the verge of signing him back in January according to Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old even travelled to the airport ahead of a move to Anfield, but Marseille pulled the plug on the deal before he jetted off.

Caleta-Car has not featured in any of Marseille’s four league games so far this season, and has only been named on the bench once.

Bad news for Wolves and West Ham as Caleta-Car agrees Tottenham move

Interestingly, the Croatian is already said to have agreed a move to Tottenham.

That was according to Croatian news outlet Sportklub, who revealed that Caleta-Car was heading for N17 to link up with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Despite that, the centre-back remains a Marseille player, so there’s a chance for Wolves or West Ham to swoop in and hijack the deal.

In fact, Wolves are probably best placed to do so.

According to The Athletic, West Ham are closing in on a £30m deal to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

In that respect, David Moyes has found his centre-back, leaving Wolves a free run to challenge Tottenham for Caleta-Car.

Keep an eye on this saga, as the colossal defender’s exit seems very likely – the only question is where Caleta-Car goes.
