Report: Wolves readying £9m bid to sign Leeds-linked South American

Italian website CalcioMercato have claimed that Wolves are readying a £9million bid to sign Juventus wide man Douglas Costa ahead of the summer window, in an attempt to elbow Leeds United side in the race for the Brazilian.

Costa, 30, is expected to leave Juventus on a permanent basis this summer, having been loaned back to Bayern Munich during the 2020-21 season. But under Hansi Flick, Costa has struggled – scoring just once in 22 games.

The 31-time Brazil international will return to Juve in the coming months where he has just 12 months remaining on his current contract. Juve will be keen to sell, given this summer represents the last opportunity for some cash.

The latest report states Wolves are set to offer £9million for Costa, a fee deemed acceptable by Juventus – but there is interest from Brazil, China and Saudi Arabia. A recent report from CalcioMercato also says Leeds are interested.

TBR’s view – Costa is a bargain at £9million

Clearly, the versatile wide man is past his prime but at £9million – he is a no-brainer. He still has enormous quality to offer and although that quality is deteriorating, his ability still far exceeds a sum less than £10million.

Wolves and Leeds both need to take action if Juve are really willing to let the winger go for such a figure, and it looks as if Wolves have that opinion as they look to table a move for a player that has 10 league titles to his name.

Five of those came at Shakhtar Donetsk, three at Juventus and two at Bayern before he moved to Italy – and a win for Bayern this weekend would see Costa clock up an astounding 11th league title. £9million, then, is ridiculously cheap.
